At this point in the novel, the action is really picking up, so I am enjoying it very much. I believe that the author is very descriptive and does a good job of creating his scenes and making them believable, in particular the battle scenes, and even dialogue between characters. The author also does a good job of describing the back stories on most of the characters. Just from reading the descriptions on some of the characters you start to feel like they are people that you know personally. The one thing that I don’t like so far is that in all the battle scenes, the point of view is always that of an officer. You only get to see his actions, thoughts, and feelings, and I personally believe that it would be more interesting and realistic to describe the battle from the point of view of the soldier, as in some other books I have read. One battle scene in particular reminds me of a scene that I read in the novel Gates Of Fire. This is the scene where Chamberlain and his men are outnumbered and outgunned and left on their own to defend Little Round Top. They even have the extra pressure put on them when an officer tells them that if they are defeated, then the entire army will be destroyed. This reminds me of the scene from the other novel because in that novel, the Spartans are also heavily outnumbered and left for dead with the future of Greece in their hands.
